JUnit
JUnit is a popular testing framework for Java. It is used to write and run repeatable automated tests for Java programs. JUnit provides a set of annotations and assertions that make it easy to write tests and check the correctness of code. It also provides tools for running and organizing tests, including the ability to define and run test suites, which are groups of tests that can be run together.
This competency area includes writing and running JUnit tests, understanding test suites, assertions, test runners, TDD, mocking techniques, and parameterized tests.
Key Competencies:
-
Writing and running JUnit tests - Creating test classes and methods, and using the JUnit annotations and assertions to define and check the behavior of the code.
-
Test suites - A test suite is a group of tests that can be run together. JUnit provides tools for organizing and running test suites, including the ability to define suites using annotations.
-
Assertions - JUnit provides a number of assertions that can be used to check the behavior of the code. These include assertions for checking values, such as assertEquals and assertTrue, as well as assertions for checking exceptions and other conditions.
-
Test runners - Ability to use this tool to execute JUnit tests.
-
Test-driven development (TDD) - Ability to use this methodology in conjunction with JUnit, as it provides a framework for writing and running automated tests.
-
Mocking - Mocking is a technique for testing code that depends on external resources, such as databases or web services. JUnit includes support for mocking through the use of mock objects.
-
Parameterized tests - Ability to write tests that can be run with different sets of input data which is useful for testing code that needs to be exercised with a variety of inputs.
